Up to 1 million people in the United States suffer from the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s disease with as many as 60,000 new cases being diagnosed each year. To help raise awareness and funding for Parkinson’s disease research, Alan teamed up with Drive Toward a Cure, getting behind the wheel of a 2018 Kia Stinger GT during the “California Adventure” trip.
The 2018 Kia Stinger GT is a powerful, comfortable, and all-around amazing machine that can hang with the 2018 Porsche Panamera on the track, and leaves the 2018 BMW 640i Gran Coupe M Sport in the dust. Starting at $38,350 for the GT model, and going up to $49,200 with the GT2 package, this affordable sporty coupe offers 376 ft. lbs. of torque at 1300 RPMs, 365 HP, and a respectable 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Taking design cues from ergonomic controls used by pilots, an 8-speed transmission shift lever gives Alan the control he needs to navigate meandering country roads on his way to Scotts Valley, California.
While promoting the ‘Drive Toward a Cure’ initiative, Alan and Karl Brauer, Executive Publisher for Kelley Blue Book, make a pit stop at Canepa Motorsports. They can’t help but geek out over the impressive showroom, restoration facility, and automotive museum at Canepa Motorsports which was founded by legendary racer and automotive restorer, Bruce Canepa.
“This is, I believe, the third year now for this drive; and I’ve been hearing about it and how well it’s done in terms of raising money for Parkinson’s disease – as well as giving people a good time to enjoy the vehicles that are on this road… It’s hard not to want to be a part of a charity drive that includes a car-guy experience like this.”

Canepa Motorsports is a 70,000 sq ft facility where the world’s best automotive artisans work to preserve some of the most important road and competition vehicles. Marketing Manager, Zach Todd, shares what makes Canepa Motorsports special, including a wide array of cars on display like a 1967 Shelby Super Snake from Don Prudhomme and a 1976 Tyrrell P34 six-wheeler F1 car. Alan gets back on the road in the 2018 Kia Stinger GT and heads for his next destination. While navigating the long, winding inland and coastal roads, Alan comments that the Kia Stinger GT does not sacrifice comfort in favor of performance and endurance; a mistake that other Gran Turismo cars often make. The Stinger’s long wheelbase, and low, wide body allow for generous front and rear leg room.
Tucked away in the Santa Barbara wine country, Alan stayed at The Alisal Ranch & Resort, a California dude ranch frequented by the Hollywood elite. Getting down to business, Alan auctioned off a BMW Driving School course and raised money for ‘Drive Toward a Cure’ and Parkinson’s disease research with a like-minded, philanthropic group.
