As 2019 draws to a close we take a look at the technological advancements and struggles the automotive industry has overcome to get to the point it’s at today. First up, Ford Senior Technical Leader, Sustainability and Emerging Materials Research Team, Debbie Mielewski, describes how they’ve partnered with McDonalds to use their coffee roast waste to create a more sustainable and efficient headlamp plastic. We also learn about some other byproduct applications they’re looking into and what we can expect from the future. Then, Automotive Journalist for Driveline Magazine, Brett Turnage, discusses their website for hardcore car guys, Driveline-Mag.com, that directs its longform content at millenials. Brett recently wrote an article about the man behind Saleen Motors, Steve Saleen, and his life’s accomplishments before becoming one of the world’s leading car designers. Up next, Product Strategy Manager, Product Planning for Kia Motors America, Jenny Chang, details the new Kia Seltos CUV and where it fits in their lineup. This aggressively stanced, Kia Telluride-esque crossover vehicle comes standard with AWD and a full suite of safety features, with a starting price under $22,000. Changing lanes, Automotive Journalist, BJ Killeen, warns of the perils of airport thiefs! Then, we chat about the amazing styling, moderate power, and driving experience of the Mazda6. BJ says the Mazda6 is beautiful inside and out, but has one major flaw: it’s infotainment system is counterintuitive! Closing out the show, Kelley Blue Book, Autotrader, and Dealer.com Executive Publisher, Karl Brauer, fills us in on the FCA and P S.A. (Pugo) merger and what it means for the global automotive field. Then, Karl reviews the 2010s and gives us his predictions for the 2020s. Tune in for a jam packed episode of THE DRIVE with Alan Taylor.
