Alan and Karl Brauer – Automotive Industry Analyst, Forbes Autos Contributor, North American Car and Truck of the Year juror and board member, and Executive Analyst for ISeeCars.com. The Detroit Auto Show last week was a disaster, as both gentlemen agree. Only four automakers participated along with Toyota.  It got worse as Biden showed up and had security kick out all the media people. Most did not go back. However, Ford saved the day, just a few blocks down from the auto show as they debut the new 2024 Ford Mustang “The Dark Horse” which has over 500 horsepower. Also in celebration of the muscle car, they hosted the Mustang Stampede to which over 1000 Mustangs were on hand for viewing. Brauer is test-driving the, 2024 Hyundai Genesis GV90 SUV. An absolutely beautiful, luxury brand’s flagship SUV. Up next is Dan Sandberg – Former President and CEO of Brembo Brakes North America.  He attended the stampede with his 2020 GT 500. He said there were fields of Mustangs at the Detroit Auto Show.  Over 1000 mustangs, From Mach 1 to 67 mustangs,  gathered around Ford headquarters. Alan inquired as to where Brembo stands in regards to electric vehicles. Well, cars are still gonna need brakes.  Half the braking power at least for now, as most vehicles have built-in stopping power. BJ Killeen – Automotive Journalist and Voice of Reason jump on board as she shares that the Volkswagen ID4 SUV, has an in-person Alexa-guided test drive.  You no longer get shadowed by a sales rep, you now get walked through with a specialist, and then you get in the vehicle and allow Alexa to take over. Next, BJ says that the National Transportation Safety Board wants to mandate blood alcohol monitoring systems installed in cars.  Adding more complication and cost to the vehicles. BJ’s last bit of news before she leaves is that General Motors is teaming up with Hertz to expand the EVs.  Where am I charging it?  At whose expense? What’s the answer or solution to all of this nonsense?  Hydrogen! Brian Moody Executive Editor of Auto Trader.com closes the show with two questions. The first is, why are electric cars are best in 2023? First, over the long haul, it’s cheaper to operate an electric vehicle. Secondly, you get a 7500 tax break, and third, they are fun to drive like the Kia EV6 GT, and Hyundai Ioniq 5.   So, next question is, why gas-powered cars are best in 2023?  First and foremost, they are more affordable, and secondly,  gas is easy to get.  Brian shares that Hybrids are a great solution too. Alan asks Brian, ” What do you do if you over your lease miles?”  Well, you could maybe turn the car in early or just buy the car.  Perhaps find out what your payoff is and sell the vehicle for the same amount or more.  There is always a way out.
