Lauren Fix – Editor-in-Chief for Car Coach Reports. starts the show with Alan this week as she shares how the Detroit Auto Show was a bust, except for what Ford and Dodge did. The 2022 Chrysler 300 with a Hemi engine, sold out in 20 minutes. Dodge announced that 7 versions of the Challenger and or Charger like the Gray Ghost, super special, super high-end classic vehicles will be showcased at SEMA. The 2024 Ford Mustang made its debut, as Lauren shared the news that the making of the Camaro will end. Lauren has been in Florida where Alan inquired about Flood cars. She said there was a McClaren P1 floated away, that was worth 1.3 million along with a Porsche GT3 RS. Speaking of floating vehicles, Lauren gives sound advice if you’re going to buy a car, and the price is low. Do your car fax, it may be a “flood car”. Ask questions Lauren switches topics and shared with Alan that by 2030 it is estimated that over 6 million battery packs from electric vehicles will be recycled. That’s 12 billion dollars’ worth. The impact on the environment on these batteries is going to be a great disaster. George Kennedy III – Co-founder of Cartender and Freelance Automotive Journalist for CarGurus, Boston Globe, and U.S. News & World Report, makes a pit stop to share that he is driving the 2022 Kia EV6. It’s a crossover, low-slung hatchback with, similar chassis to the Hyundai Ioniq 5. With a 274-mile range. Fun car to drive. Performance-oriented ride, with a great futuristic interior and lots of floor space. Up next is Steven Cole Smith – Automotive Journalist for Autoweek, Automobile Magazine, Grassroots Motorsports. Steven is in Florida, so Alan inquired about the racetracks that the media showed were like lakes, Steven confirmed that the media posted photos from a flood 5 years ago. Not a lot going on in the motorsport world, except for NASCAR Cup series playoffs 31 of 36. Alex Bowman and Kyle Busch are out because of a concussion, drivers are concerned about new cars being so stiff causing hard crashes. Coincidence? Chase Elliot won at Talladega. Steven announced that Honda is releasing130 electric cars in the next 10 years and that the Camaro is going to come back as an electric. Brian Moody – Executive Editor of Auto Trader.com. closes the show with Alan as they discuss, flood-damaged cars. Brian suggests knowing what you’re getting. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Red flags, such as electronics don’t work. Look in the trunk to see if any residue is left. Check under carpets to see if it’s wet, and check for rust inside of the car. Look at the headlights to see if there is a silt line If it smells like a heavy deodorizer with a slight smell of mildew, another red flag. Brian says to check out KBB.com to know how to spot flood-damaged cars. Before Brian leaves, he gives us the top 8 least expensive cars for 2022. 2022 Chevrolet spark, Mitsubishi Mirage, Nissan Versa, Kia Rio, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Venue, Kia Forte, Kia Seoul, Subaru Impreza, and the Nissan Sentra.
