Alan welcomes contributor and friend Lauren Fix, Editor-in-Chief for Car Coach Reports. Lauren delivers another round of reality discussing the recession and how it is affecting everyone. She attended the Amelia Island Concours, which is now operated by Hagerty, and was impressed with the 4 amazing auctions that generated over 178.4 million dollars – a new record in sales. Vehicles such as a 1962 Ferrari 250 GT, Ferrari Dino’s Pagani Zonda, 1966 Ferrari 250, a 2015 McLaren P1, and the 1935 Voison c25 Aerodyne, to name a few. Lauren also shared that she was a guest on Greatest of All Time with Peyton Manning, Season 1 episode 2, to discuss the top 10 vehicles of all time. You can visit her website at carcoachreports.com to view the list. Before she leaves, Lauren shares how a city in the U.K. has become the first 15-minute city, which means that from your home, it will only take you 15 minutes to get to work, store, or anything else you may need. You can walk, ride share, catch a bus, ride a bike, or drive your electric car. However, should you plan to leave the city, you need permission from your state officials. Up next in the driver’s seat for a quick spin is George Kennedy III, co-founder of Cartender.com, and the Vice President of the New England Motor Press Association. He contributes to U.S. News & World Report, CarGurus, Forbes Wheels, and here on The Drive. He test-drove the new stealth performance 2023 Ford Expedition. With its 440 horsepower, twin-turbo echo boost V6, it’s fast, smooth, and maneuvers with ease. Overall, a good fit, and ride. With George being a motorsports enthusiast, Alan switched topic and asked, “what race would YOU like to do?” “Desert racing,” is his reply. George says farewell as he and Alan reminisce about their experience in the ‘sandbox’. Bringing up the rear is Steven Cole Smith, Editor-in chief of Car Coach Reports. Steven shares a bit of controversy that happened at Daytona when Team Acura won by cheating. How? By rigging their computer to show that the tires were at legal racing pressure, when they weren’t. However, Honda Acura did not want to win that way, so they turned themselves in. NASCAR allowed them to keep the win and the Rolex’s but everything else was taken away. George says that motorsports racing is back at full force. People are coming back, sell out crowds are everywhere. Before George leaves, Alan inquires if he got to drive anything new. A Lexus R350 hybrid, and an Aston Martin DBX 707. Aston Martin’s massive SUV with 697 horsepower, was built strong, and was a lot of fun to drive. How much? A whopping $292k. Join us on our next episode as Alan returns from his trip to Las Vegas for the debut of Dodge’s monster reveal.
