Welcome back, as our first guest and contributor is Josh Hancock, the Hollywood Car Consultant. Josh recently visited the Motorland, a classic car museum in Maine. They have an incredible collection of around 50 cars, including rare gems like the Aston DB2A and Tucker. Josh Hancock, a well-known Hollywood car consultant, also test drove a Mercedes-Benz C class in Maine and found it to be a reliable sedan, although he suggested it might not be suitable for Maine’s driving conditions. On the entertainment front, there are reports of Paramount being up for sale, signifying a shift in focus from creativity to profitability in the industry. Stellantis, a major player in the automotive sector, experienced a significant decline in the second quarter, primarily in Ram and Jeep sales. This decline is not only attributed to electric cars but also raises concerns about future plans and the impact of declining muscle car sales.
Up next is contributor Karl Brauer, Automotive Industry Analyst, Forbes Autos Contributor, North American Car and Truck of the Year juror and board member and Executive Analyst for Forbes, recently recommended the Toyota Prius as the best car to buy at the moment, praising its performance, driving experience, and design. He specifically highlighted the plug-in hybrid version, emphasizing its 44 miles of pure electric travel when fully charged. Karl has been an enthusiastic participant in the longtail rally for the past four years and values the event’s organization and camaraderie. The increased demand for high-end vehicles like Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and McLaren over the last five years can be attributed to factors such as increased awareness of mortality following events like the September 11th attacks and lockdowns during the recent global pandemic, leading more people to seek out enjoyable activities like driving. This has resulted in a surge in production volumes, pricing, and customer backlog for these elite automotive brands.
On the second hour we have George, the co-founder of Cartender.com and the Vice President of the New England Motor Press Association, expressed frustration over a podcast’s prediction that everything would be autonomous in 10 years. He emphasized the importance of gradual industry changes and doubted the feasibility of the prediction. He also discussed the 2024 Hyundai Palisade, highlighting its pricing and recommending the SL trim for its premium package. He noted that the Palisade offers more comfort and elegance compared to the sportier Kia Telluride.
Brian Moody, the Executive Editor of Auto Trader.com and KBB.com, discussed various aspects of car ownership and the automotive industry. He touched upon the transition from used cars to classics, emphasizing the importance of a vehicle’s age and safety features in determining its status as a classic. Moreover, he highlighted the significance of resale value, listing the top 10 vehicles with the highest predicted resale value for 2024. Additionally, Brian presented a list of new electric cars expected to debut in 2025, shedding light on the challenges and considerations associated with owning an electric vehicle. The discussion provided valuable insights for potential car buyers and enthusiasts.
